Our Customs:



The Ackwale Mane Family celebrate and conducts numerous festivals and rituals as per the the customs laid down by our ancestors . The customs,rituals and festivals can be broadly classified into three groups:


Kalavadhi (Annual/Cyclic rituals performed every year):



The Kalavadhi or Annual/cyclic rituals are those commont ritual which will be performed every year. The responsibility of conduting these rituals are transferred in a cycle between the four main branches of the family namely Bhaagi, Dheju, Sesi and Mariyamma branch. The responsibilities include:

  1. Gadihara : This ritual is performed around the month of January after Makara Sankranthi.The ritual involves a bali of a fowl in the feild offered to the "Gandha-prasada" brought from Maranakatte.Later the fowl is cooked and the food is served as a prasada to the family members
  2. Bootha : This annual ritual is usually performed in the month of April-May .The ritual involves bali of fowls to various Daivas : 5 fowls to the Pidayida Bootha(Malesavira) , 4 fowls to Ulaida Bootha(Jumadi-Bunta and Parivara Daivas) and 1 fowl to the Jalabaikathi-Panjurli.The bali also includes additional personal balis by family member (usually 3 fowls to each Daiva group) .The 10 fowls offered for bali is served as prasada to all the family members along with rice and fish curry
  3. Nagara Panchami : Nagara panchami involves offering of 3 Thanu to the family Naga Bhana
  4. Chauthi PoojeChauthi Pooje (Ganesh Chathurthi) celebration involves setting up of Ganapathi made up of kalasha-Coconut ,flowers and sugar cane.Ganapathi and the divas are offered Dosa ans popped-rice(poddol) mixed with jaggery.After the pooja ,Dosa and popped-rice-jaggery is distributed as prasada.
  5. Navarathri : As a Navarathri offering 4-Ser rice and 1-Kg Oil is offered to Devi of Kallamatha



Festivals and Rituals conducted at household:



  1. Deepoli Parba : The three day celebration includes Day-1: Saithikalna parba(Festival of the Dead) Day-2: Ithinakalna parba(Festival of the living) -Lighting the fields-Tulasi Pooje. Day-3 :Paadya-Go Puje
  2. Astemi (Udupi Krishnastami):
  3. Kural Kattun(Ushuring inn the new crop) :
  4. Yugadi(Bisu-Sauramana Ugadi)
  5. Kapu Maari Pooje : A bali ritual performed at Kapu temple
  6. Taddeda Ajji :
  7. Maari : A thrice a year Bali ritual conducted in honour of Village Godess Sri Durgaparameshwari Amma of Sanyasi Mutt

Other Rituals and Customs:



  1. Dhakke Bali: This a Naga worship function conducted by the family once in every two years around the months of March-Apri-May.
  2. Pasarne: A offering ritual performed for the Ulaida Boothas
  3. Thanu : A offering ritual performed at the Naga Bhanas
  4. Bobbarya Deepini An offering to Bobbarya Daiva usually for betterment of cattles
  5. Keel Deepini : An offering to Keel Daiva
  6. Kulek Deepini and Sanyasi Mutt Parnd-Tarai:An offering to dead ancestor on fridays or on special occation.This is often preceeded with the an Parnd-Tari offering at Sanyasi Mutt to invite the family Kules(Atmas) who reside at the Sanyasi Mutt
